Broadmead is coming back!

We are so pleased to share the good news that Broadmead has indeed survived, and that we will all be able to swim another day!

(Here’s the short version… join now and—if you possibly can—please make an additional supportive donation to keep your favorite neighborhood pool afloat.)

The financial support we have received to date from Princeton University—and from so many members, with $18k in donations having poured in over the winter to unlock most of the 1:1 matching grant from the University— has enabled us to undertake some serious improvements to our physical space, along with some other major steps forward:

  • For the first time ever, we have installed safety covers over both pools (main and baby) for the off-season

  • Essential repairs to the main pool (including new edging and tiles!) are underway and are planned to be completed by the Memorial Day weekend

  • Your all-volunteer board has partnered with a new management company, having been able (with the financial winter cushion that YOU and the University provided) to reach out to a highly rated management company who required commitment by the end of 2023 and a staggered set of payments beginning in the spring.

Which brings us to the essential point: while in the past you might have waited to join until the weather started to warm up, this year, we need everyone to join (and pay) NOW! We genuinely need to bolster the Club’s coffers ASAP to:

  • Pay the new management company’s first invoice, due April 1st

  • Complete our match for the Princeton University challenge grant and so unlock matching support for further repairs:  $7k of the overall $25k remains to be raised from donations

So: please join ASAP!  And also—if you possibly can—make an additional donation:

  • If every member/family were to donate an extra $70, we’d make the match.  So, since not everyone can do so, if you can donate just $70/100/200 extra, please do—even if you already made an extra contribution (which was crucial) this fall.

  • The membership rates this year are now posted online:

    • You’ll find for most categories just a small increase over last year’s, reflecting expected increases in operating costs.

    • In line with the University’s efforts to support graduate students, we have opted to reduce rates for all memberships in that category. Please join and encourage your friends to join!

We are working hard to achieve a level of financial stability that will enable your volunteer board to sleep soundly in between swims, but we’re not there yet.  So please, ASAP, JOIN, pay your membership fees, and consider adding some extra support so that we can access those University matching funds.

We look forward to welcoming you back into membership,

Your Broadmead Swim Club volunteer board
